Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said on Friday he cannot figure out why young people prefer him over Hillary Clinton.
Sanders’ failed Democratic presidential campaign attracted millennial voters across the country that Clinton has yet to fully mobilize as the Democratic nominee.
“Why were you able to connect so well with millennials and why is Hillary so bad at connecting with millennials?” asked MSNBC personality Joe Scarborough.
“Joe that’s a fair question and I honestly don’t know the answer,” Sanders answered. “But this is what I do know: In politics, too much we look at personality. We like you, we don’t like you. And I think we got to back away from that and say we’re not looking at Trump or Clinton, we’re looking at the needs of the American people.”
Sanders argued that Clinton best meets the needs of the people and has the experience and credentials to do so.
The socialist senator will campaign in Pittsburgh, Penn., for Democratic senate candidate Katie McGinty on Friday.
