Former federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy said the public would know the identity of those who actually unmasked Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn if he were a Democrat.
“Reminder: Just because we have a list of unmasker names does not mean we know who the actual unmaskers are,” McCarthy wrote on Twitter. “If this was GOP unmasking Dems, it’d be a scandal, we’d have answers, and people would already have walked the plank over it.”

McCarthy’s tweet came alongside a Washington Examiner article from 2017 with the headline “Trey Gowdy: Samantha Power testified that intel officials made ‘unmasking’ requests in her name.”
In the article, former House Oversight & Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy is quoted saying former President Barack Obama’s former United Nations ambassador, Samantha Power, testified she made as many as 260 unmasking requests, but that some were made by others on her behalf.
McCarthy was reacting to Wednesday’s release of a memo by acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, identifying high-level Obama administration officials who received information in response to unmasking requests targeted at Flynn in the final weeks of the administration.
The names on the list include former Vice President Joe Biden, former FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, former DNI Chief James Clapper, and others.
As McCarthy pointed out, it is unclear who specifically requested the unmasking information.
“Joe Biden’s limp claim that he doesn’t know anything about the railroading of Gen. Michael Flynn just got even more unbelievable,” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement. “Americans have a right to know the depth of Biden’s involvement in the setup of Gen. Flynn to further the Russia collusion hoax.”
The Biden campaign responded to the news with a tweet from a campaign spokesperson attacking one of the reporters who covered the story as a “hack.” That tweet was subsequently deleted.
