Miami Dade College receives $2.18 million grant

MIAMI (AP) — Miami Dade College will soon be grooming more entrepreneurs.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation on Thursday announced a $2.18 million grant to the school to launch a new entrepreneurial hub.

The new Idea Center will create co-working spaces for Miami Dade students to brainstorm and develop projects. It will also establish an accelerator to support students who want to build and test ideas, and it will leverage the college’s alumni and community network to establish mentoring programs. The Idea Center will provide a speaker series, hold a Startup Challenge with $5,000 for the best idea and provide funding for those looking to scale their ideas.

The grant also will fund a partnership with Babson College to introduce the entrepreneurial mindset across the Miami Dade disciplines.
