MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace said that South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and long shot Democratic presidential candidate was “chicken soup for my soul,” in a series of positive comments about Democrats.
Wallace said of Buttigieg, “That guy makes me feel better,” as first reported by the Washington Free Beacon. She furthermore said that his comments about religious faith, which have been widely criticized by conservative Christians, sounded like “the language of the faith community in a beautiful and eloquent way.”
Wallace, who once identified as conservative and served as communications director in the George W. Bush White House, has declared that she is willing to vote for whichever 2020 Democratic candidate wins the nomination. Wallace has also been one of the most outspoken critics of President Trump on the MSNBC network.
Wallace, 47, also referred to Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris as “brilliant,” “beautiful,” and “a badass,” and has credited Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren as being “smarter asleep on Ambien” than Trump would be “jacked up” on coffee. Wallace was also apologetic to former Democratic Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke in his perceived treatment by the media and asked him how the network could cover him more fairly.
The MSNBC anchor also worked in 2008 for former Republican Sen. John McCain’s bid for the White House and now considers herself a “non-practicing Republican.”
