The Daily Outrage: DOD small business office awards $342 million without verification

Who: Andre Gudger, director of the Department of Defense Office of Small Business Programs

What: His office gave three contracts worth a total of $342 million and reserved for small businesses owned by disabled veterans to companies that were either ineligible or potentially ineligible for the contracts, because the Office of Small Business Programs “did not require adequate verification of contractor status,” according to the DOD inspector general.

Why It’s an Outrage: Twelve contracts totalling $11.5 million went to six companies previously denied eligibility for the disabled veterans program, seven contracts worth $9.8 million went to companies whose eligibility could not be verified, and eight contracts valued at approximately $319 million went to seven companies that “potentially misstated” their eligibility.

Where to Vent: Call Gudger at 571-372-6191.
