Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has done it. He has finally made sense, and feminists hate him for it.
When discussing rape culture at the Black and Brown Presidential Forum in Iowa on Monday, Sanders said that it’s best handled by the police — and not colleges or activists.
“Rape and assault is rape or assault whether it takes place on a campus or a dark street,” Sanders said. “If a student rapes another student it has got to be understood as a very serious crime, it has to get outside of the school and have a police investigation and that has to take place.”
Sander’s philosophy on rape is the antithetical to what many feminists including Hillary Clinton believe.
Social Justice Warriors lashed out against the socialist senator, stating he didn’t understand that by forcing victims to go to police, it would make them verify their stories and make them victims all over again.
Huffington Post interviewed feminist activists about their outrage over Sander’s sensible answers.
“Advocating for requiring survivors to go to the police shows his lack of understanding of what constitutes equity on campus,” said Andrea Pino, a sexual assault survivor and co-founder of the activist group End Rape On Campus, to The Huffington Post”and also demonstrates an ignorance of the current lack of police preparedness on this issue.”
Other Social Justice Warriors took to their blogs to denounce Sanders.
“Without key interventions by their schools, many survivors won’t be able to continue their educations,” Alexandra Brodsky wrote on Feministing, “An extension on a paper due the week after an assault might make the difference between a victim staying in school and dropping out. No police force can provide that kind of accommodation. Don’t want victims ‘sitting in a classroom alongside somebody who raped them’? A school can often make that happen more quickly than a student can get a restraining order, particularly if he or she has trouble accessing a court.”
These activists hope that unelected bureaucrats at the Title IX agency — the Office for Civil Rights — can better handle violent crime than the police, or maybe they can just pass easier judgement without a thorough investigation.
