Rove to anti-Trump crowd: Time is running out

There is still time for Republicans who don’t want Donald Trump to be the 2016 nominee, but that time is running out, according to Karl Rove.

In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal published Wednesday night, the former senior adviser to President George W. Bush gave Trump credit for his recent caucus wins that have pushed him to front-runner status.

“Donald Trump scored a very impressive win in Nevada, taking 45.9 percent and 14 of the state’s 30 delegates to the GOP convention. But the Republican nomination is far from settled,” Rove wrote. “After four contests, only 133 of the convention’s 2,472 delegates have been selected.”

“There is still time for the non-Trump GOP majority to coalesce around a single candidate, but not much,” Rove added.

Rove added that the Republican Party has until mid-March to unite behind one candidate. “If not, the hopes of the party’s non-Trump majority will suffer the same fate as Caesar,” he wrote.

Even before Rove’s op-ed was published, Trump was attacking him on Twitter.

“Big defeat last night in Nevada for Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. @KarlRove on @FoxNews is working hard to belittle my victory. Rove is sick!” Trump tweeted. “In all of television — the only one who said anything bad about last nights landslide victory — was dopey @KarlRove. He should be fired!”
