Don Jr. blasts Russia investigation coverage: The media is ‘a blight on our republic’

Donald Trump Jr. says the media’s coverage of the Robert Mueller investigation into whether his father colluded with Russia was a “blight on our republic.”

“They did a terrible disservice to this country, to journalism as a profession. I think they’ve done irreparable damage to the faith that the average American is going to have in terms of mainstream journalism,” said Trump Jr. in an interview with Fox News’s “MediaBuzz,” which aired Sunday. “I think it’s a blight on our republic on democracy and on our Constitution – that’s not going to come undone very quickly.”

Trump Jr’s comments follow the conclusion of the Russia investigation led by Mueller, who looked into whether President Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government to win the 2016 presidential election.

After Mueller submitted his final report to the Justice Department, Attorney General William Barr shared a four-page summary of Mueller’s findings with Congress last weekend which stated the investigation found no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. According to Barr’s four-page summary, Mueller declined to determine whether Trump obstructed justice, and Barr said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded there was insufficient evidence to show the president committed such a crime.

Trump Jr., made a similar “blight” comment about the Mueller investigation last week, said in his “MediaBuzz” interview that he believed Mueller tried and failed to use the investigation to end his father’s presidency.

Now I don’t believe for one second that there’s not one person on that team whose dream it would not have been to take down Donald Trump,” he said. “I stand by that 100 percent.”
