Wall Street Journal to Trump: Apologize to judge

The conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board is calling on Republican nominee Donald Trump to apologize to the federal district judge for saying he has an ethnic bias against the presumptive GOP nominee.

The paper said Sunday night that Trump, who is in the middle of defending himself in a lawsuit against his now-defunct Trump University, was wrong to attack Judge Gonzalo Curiel as “a Mexican.”

“Apart from his racist implications, Mr. Trump is also indulging in the left’s habit of attributing the motivations of everyone and everything to race, class, gender and sexual orientation,” said the Journal. “Claiming that a person’s judgment is determined by his objective circumstances is a Marxist trope. Isn’t Mr. Trump supposed to be running against such thinking? … As for Mr. Trump, he should let his lawyers argue his civil case, apologize to the judge, and start talking about the economy.”

Over the weekend, Trump defended his recent assertions that Curiel, an American-born Indiana native, was “unfair” to him in the ongoing lawsuit and that it may have something to do with his Mexican immigrant parents, given that Trump has championed building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I’m building a wall. I’m trying to keep business out of Mexico. Mexico’s fine,” Trump said Sunday in an interview on CNN.
