Ben Carson: Not ‘running for public office ever again’

Dr. Ben Carson will never run for public office again.

The former 2016 GOP candidate told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Wednesday night he will not run for the GOP nomination in 2020 or any year beyond that.

“I have no intention of ever running for public office ever again,” Carson said.

The neurosurgeon-turned-politician said he would not have run had it not been for the “tremendous outcry of the people.”

Carson added he is relieved not to be on stage as the nominee at the Cleveland convention.

“I still am just as passionate about saving our country and I will continue to devote my efforts to making sure that we create an environment of safety and prosperity for our children,” Carson said.

Although Carson was among the first to endorse Trump after dropping out of the race, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has not backed the nominee. Cruz is rumored to be planning a 2020 run, even if Trump wins the White House in November. Cruz’s decision not to endorse Trump in his speech Wednesday night may be a move to distance himself from Trump for a future election.
