On this day, March 28, in 1974, a streaker ran onto the stage of “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.”
The streaking wave had taken the country by storm in 1974, with streaks reported on a Pan Am 747, Wall Street and in the state legislatures.

The moment was too strong for the walrus-mustachioed Pat McCormick, one of writers for “The Tonight Show.”
Carson was completely taken by surprise by the sight of the 6-foot-7, 300-pound McCormick running naked across the stage.
NBC censors were able black out the lower half of the video. The streaker was arrested but released for “lack of evidence,” Carson said.
