North Carolina cheerleaders apologized after sending their rivals a not-so-cheerful message.
The cheer squad at Butler High School said sorry for holding a banner at a Friday night football game that read, “Sniff, sniff, you smell that? Privilege.” Their competitor on Oct. 15 was Charlotte Catholic.
“Butler High School cheerleaders have sent an apology letter to counterparts at Charlotte Catholic,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said in a statement.

The students will reportedly be disciplined for their actions, but the specific punishment has not been made public, according to Fox 46 Charlotte.
It’s not just cheerleaders — adults will also be penalized for the banner.
“Squad members and adults responsible for oversight will face consequences as a result of that banner display,” the school district said. “School and district officials will offer no specific information about this disciplinary matter.”
