Democrat Jacky Rosen wins Nevada primary to take on Republican Sen. Dean Heller

Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., won the primary race Tuesday to challenge Republican Dean Heller for his Nevada Senate seat in the fall.

If Democrats want to retake the Senate majority they have to oust Heller, who maintains a 2-point net approval rating in a state where President Trump is underwater.

Heller is the only Republican Senator up for re-election in a state won by Hillary Clinton in 2016, making him a top Democratic target. Though Rosen must overcome Heller’s name ID advantage, current polling puts them neck-and-neck.

Rosen is also outraising and significantly outspending Heller, according to recent fundraising numbers.

If Rosen is successful in ousting Heller, Democrats’ path to Senate control is a tricky one. Ten Democratic senators are up for re-election in states Trump won. Democrats would have to hold every single seat, flip Heller’s and win one more.
