Cross offers a ‘Desperate’ plea on Capitol Hill

I know making movies is slow; I’ve learned that Washington is slower.”

Not exactly the most friendly Welcome Wagon from “Desperate Housewives” star Marcia Cross, who swung by Capitol Hill today, but then again: Manners on Wisteria Lane have always been optional.

Cross took to the Capitol to drum up support for The Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act. And there was no mistaking how strongly she felt about the current state of affairs: “Unconscionable.” “Un-American.” “Barbaric.” (See the online petition here.)

(Cross’ black dress matched her mood and her shiny lip gloss made her look like she had licked her chops and was ready for this legislative battle.)

Not that policy was on everybody’s mind during the press conference. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., just couldn’t resist asking Cross, ‘So did you finally get a workman to work on your house?’ (In the most recent episode of the ABC show, Cross’ character, Bree, sees her home destroyed by a hurricane.)

We tried to get Cross to talk about the 2008 presidential aspirants, but she wouldn’t budge. “I haven’t made up my mind yet,” she told Yeas & Nays, although she did confess that she was impressed with the top three Democratic contenders and one in particular: “When it comes to health care, Hillary‘s got it going on.”

Still, despite her critiques of Washington, Cross was happy with one local touch: our paparazzi. As the cameras flashed away during a post-conference photo op, Cross declared: “You all are so nice! You don’t yell. In LA all the photographers just yell at you.”
