Larry King on Trump: ‘brilliant businessman,’ ‘instinctive’

Veteran broadcaster Larry King said Monday he’s not confident in what the outcome of the presidential election will be, noting that presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has made the process almost entirely unpredictable.

“I think that Donald — he’s running as a populist,” said King, a former longtime CNN host, during an interview on MSNBC. “He’s not really running as a true Republican. He’s running against the establishment.”

Trump has seen his candidacy thrive throughout the primary by frequently bucking traditional Republican orthodoxy, most recently this week by saying he would be anticipated that under a potential Trump presidency, taxes on wealthy Americans would increase.

“Donald Trump is strictly off here,” said King, gesturing to his head. “He’s a brilliant businessman, he’s done very well. Business is not government. There’s not profit at the end of the week. … But he’s instinctive. So he’ll go to his instincts.”

Asked if he saw Trump winning the general election, King said, “Anything can happen when people run for office. I would not bet on the race.”
