President Trump on Tuesday said the person or people behind a series of deadly bombings in the Austin area are “sick” and will be tracked down by law enforcement authorities.
“What’s going on in Austin – a great place, a tremendous place – is absolutely disgraceful,” the president told reporters during an Oval Office meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
“We have to find this very sick person or people. We have to find them really immediately,” he added, lauding the “great” coordination between local and federal officials.
At least five bombings have occurred in the Texas capital over the past 19 days, injuring several people and causing two fatalities. The first three bombs in the area were left on people’s doorsteps as packages, while the fourth bomb was planted on the side of the road and likely triggered by a tripwire, according to FBI officials.
A fifth bomb went off early Tuesday morning at a FedEx sorting facility in Schertz, Texas, nearly an hour away from Austin.
Police suspect a linkage between all five bombs and have offered a reward for any information that leads to the apprehension of the perpetrator or perpetrators. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have warned local residents not to approach any unidentified packages left near their homes.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Tuesday there is currently “no apparent nexus to terrorism at this time.”
