Police arrested a teacher’s aide in West Columbia, South Carolina, on Thursday after they were called to the scene over reports of a marijuana smell, leading to the discovery of a bag containing the drug.
Rachelle Brickhouse, 35, was arrested after a teacher reportedly made the school resource officer aware of the smell. Upon arriving at Riverbank Elementary, police entered the classroom bathroom where they reported the smell was the strongest.
The officers found a purse with a plastic bag of leafy material they suspected to be the illicit drug. As a result, the police cleared the classroom.
The aide admitted that the bag was hers, according to WLTX. Brickhouse was charged with simple possession of marijuana and subsequently booked in the Lexington County jail.

Lexington School District Two told local news outlets that the aide violated its drug policy. “The District maintains and enforces policies concerning the possession and/or use of alcohol and drugs,” the district said in a statement. “Violations of these policies can lead to discipline, up to and including termination. The District takes seriously any reports of this nature and will follow proper protocol to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”
