President Trump called special counsel Robert Mueller a “true Never Trumper.”
“I think he is a total conflicted person. I think Mueller is a true Never Trumper,” Trump said Thursday in comments on the South Lawn. “He is somebody that dislikes Donald Trump. He is somebody that didn’t get a job that he requested that he wanted very badly. And then he was appointed.”

Trump complained that Mueller and he had a business dispute that caused the special counsel to dislike him.
“As you know I had a business dispute with him after he left the FBI. We had a business dispute. Not a nice one, he wasn’t happy with what I did. I don’t blame him but I had to do it because that was the right thing to do,” Trump said.

The president’s claim to a business dispute refers to Mueller ending in October 2011 his family’s membership with Trump’s National Golf Club. Mueller wrote a letter to Trump asking for a partial refund of his membership fee. A request that was never fulfilled.
Mueller noted the incident in a footnote in his report. The footnote claimed that Trump’s advisers told the president the incident was not a true conflict of interest.
