Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, said Monday that a healthcare vote could not wait until after the week-long July 4th recess and argued it needs to take place by Friday.
Cornyn was responding to a reporter who said that he left the door open to delaying a vote until at least August 1st, having called that the “drop-dead line” for a vote while in Colorado Springs for a conference hosted by Charles and David Koch.
“I am closing the door. We need to do it this week before double-digit premium increases are announced for next year,” Cornyn said.
When asked what the rush was in Colorado Springs, Cornyn seemed to indicate it was important to get the bill done this week because health insurance premiums are rising, which is hurting people around the country.

The Texas Republican said that a vote needs to take place despite at least five holdouts within the Senate Republican caucus: Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Mike Lee, R-Utah, Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Dean Heller, R-Nev.
