Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was hacked during a message exchange with Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, according to sources.
Sources told the Guardian on Tuesday that Bezos’s phone was likely compromised when Salman sent him a video file that was infected. A person familiar with the matter said that large amounts of information were taken from the CEO’s phone in just a few hours.
After their investigation, Bezos’s team believed with “high confidence” that the Saudis had “access” to the CEO’s phone and had “gained private information” from it.
In February 2019, Bezos made public that the National Enquirer’s parent company attempted to blackmail him with embarrassing photos if he tried to discover how the tabloid had gotten lurid texts between him and his mistress.
The new report could reopen questions of where the tabloid got dirt on Bezos. The country has denied hacking Bezos’s phone.
