Louisiana Senate candidate burns Confederate flag in ad

Senate candidate Gary Chambers of Louisana is keeping his hot streak of attention-grabbing ads alive.

An ad released Wednesday, titled “Scars and Bars,” features the Democrat pouring gasoline on a Confederate flag before taking a lighter and setting the flag ablaze. Chambers, who provides the narration, says in the ad that “it feels like Jim Crow never left” Louisiana and the South.

Chambers said Louisiana’s system is not broken but is “designed to do exactly what it’s doing,” which he claims is “producing immeasurable inequity.” He lists multiple statistics, claiming “1 in 13 black Americans are deprived of the right to vote” and that “1 in 9 black Americans do not have health insurance.”

“It’s time to burn what remains of the Confederacy down,” Chambers said.”I do believe the South will rise again, but this time, it’ll be on our terms.”

The candidate previously made headlines in mid-January in an ad featuring him smoking marijuana. Chambers said he hoped the ad would “destigmatize the use of marijuana.”
