Teacher charged over relationship with student

A substitute teacher and track coach at Prince William County schools is facing sex-crimes charges stemming from a relationship he allegedly had with a female student.

Prince William County police said 27-year-old Eric Lewis, of Quantico, has been charged with sodomy and carnal knowledge over a relationship he had with a Potomac High School student in 2008, when he was a substitute teacher there. The student is now 17, police said.

Police said school officials learned of the relationship on Thursday and notified police. Lewis was a track coach at Gar-Field High School in 2008, 2010 and 2011, according to a letter the school’s principal sent to parents. His employment as a coach and substitute teacher has been terminated, the letter said.

Lewis was being held Friday without bond.
