Mexico offers to help after Hurricane Harvey hits Texas

A top Mexican official offered to help Texas deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey after the natural disaster devastated parts of the state.

Luis Videgaray Caso, Mexico’s foreign minister, said Sunday he had spoken with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and offered his country’s assistance.

“We will provide all the help we can. Our full solidarity with the people of Texas,” Videgaray wrote of the phone call.

Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, the Mexican consul general in Austin, told the Dallas News he had been in constant contact with Abbott’s office about how Mexico could assist.

“As we have done in the past, Mexico stands with Texas in this difficult moment,” Gonzalez said.

Mexico sent troops, food, medicine and water to victims in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

President Trump blasted Mexico via Twitter on Sunday, insisting once again that Mexico will pay for a border wall.

Trump also accused Mexico of being “very difficult” during renegotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
