Archuleta to Bears

The Redskins made Adam Archuleta the highest paid safety in the NFL last year. Now they’ve made him a Chicago Bear.

The Redskins traded Archuleta to Chicago for a low-round draft choice, according to multiple sources. The Bears had to first work out financial compensation for Archuleta and will reportedly pay him $8.1 million overthree years.

Bears coach Lovie Smith coached Archuleta when both were in St. Louis. A highly-placed Bears source said Chicago was interested in Archuleta last offseason, but bowed out once the Redskins got involved. Archuleta had wanted to play for Smith, but the Redskins made him the game’s highest paid safety. Seattle also had interest in trading for him.
