Dependable son, employee killed in NW home

Wayne Walker was 52 years old when he was killed in his Rock Creek Ford Road apartment six years ago. His killer has still not been found.

On Nov. 24, 2003, Walker was discovered lying naked on his living room floor with stab wounds and a slashed throat.

Authorities said they believed he had been dead for days.

Walker’s mother knew something was wrong when her son didn’t come to her apartment several days earlier after she had asked him to bring her something to eat.

Walker took care of his mother, who also lived in D.C. He would visit her almost every day after work.

“My mother knew that Wayne was reliable, you know, anyone that knew Wayne knew he was reliable,” Walker’s sister, Cassandra, told reporters after his death.

Hours passed, then days, and still there was no sign of Walker.

Meanwhile, he had missed a day of work without calling in. An Amtrak worker for 17 years, Walker’s employers found this odd and decided to call Walker’s mother. They prompted her to check on him, but she was weak and said she would need to find someone else to do it.

The next day, Nov. 24, Walker’s mother called Amtrak back, and they reported Walker still had not been in to work. Finally she decided to call the resident building manager to check on her son.

He was discovered dead at 4 that afternoon.

Surveillance video from Walker’s apartment complex showed him leaving the building with an unidentified man on Nov. 21 and re-entering with the same man later that day. The video then showed the man leaving by himself the following day.

Police said there was evidence that Walker, a gay man, had been sexually active the night of his death. They told reporters his lifestyle probably had something to do with his killing, as he would frequently pick up men he didn’t know.

Walker had booked a flight to California for the day before his body was found. He had planned to visit his daughter and buy her a new car.

Anyone with information regarding the death of Wayne Walker is asked to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099.
