Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg put questions about his political future to rest Sunday by saying on his Facebook page he is not running for public office.
Zuckerberg set out this year to visit each state he hadn’t been to before, a move that fueled speculation as to whether he would run for office in the future.
But the Facebook founder wrote on his personal page on the social media site to say those trips are about building relationships, not seeking votes.
“Some of you have asked if this challenge means I’m running for public office. I’m not,” Zuckerberg said. “I’m doing it to get a broader perspective to make sure we’re best serving our community of almost 2 billion people at Facebook and doing the best work to promote equal opportunity at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.”
Zuckerberg went on to say that he wants Facebook to help connect people with others they “should know,” such as mentors and “people outside your circle who care about you and can provide a new source of support and inspiration.”
