Virginia church roof collapses, hurting 2 men

Two men were injured when a church’s roof collapsed at a construction site in Leesburg on Monday afternoon, fire and rescue personnel there said.

Three men were working on the roof of a church at 19600 Evergreen Mills Road when the trusses on the roof collapsed, fire and rescue spokeswoman Mary Maguire said. The men fell 30 to 40 feet to the ground, Maguire said.

One man was trapped underneath the fallen trusses and was taken by helicopter to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A second worker who avoided the falling trusses was taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The third man was uninjured, Maguire said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the accident, Maguire said.
