2 men sentenced in home invasion, plot to kidnap bank worker

Two D.C. men have been sentenced for their roles in the armed home invasion at the Prince George’s County residence of a bank employee and plotting to kidnap the banker.

Prosecutors said 42-year-old Jeffery Edelen was sentenced in federal court in Greenbelt to 30 years in prison and 40-year-old Kendall Taylor was sentenced to 35 years behind bars.

The pair and one other man broke into the home of a woman who worked at a D.C. bank on Jan. 13, 2011, and held the woman and her son at gunpoint, according to prosecutors. They planned to take the woman to the bank and force her to help the men obtain money.

But the child called his father, who then called police, when he heard the men banging on the door, authorities said. Police arrived before the abductors and woman left the house.

Edelen, Taylor and 43-year-old Darrell Carter, of Fort Washington, were convicted in November. Carter is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
