Virginia slam dunk: Republican path to victory

Over the past several years, many political analysts had begun writing off Republican chances in Virginia. The state’s increasing Democratic lean, especially in the populous northern Virginia suburbs and exurbs near Washington, D.C., had colored a once-red state to purple, and then blue, the experts said. Glenn Youngkin’s victory Tuesday changes that. As Doug McKelway reports, Youngkin’s win is a reminder that a party’s success is only as good as its record.
