5 Dems to CNN youth forum: Buttigieg, Harris, Klobuchar, Sanders, Warren

Harvard University and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics announced Thursday that they will co-host CNN’s “first youth focused town hall” for the 2020 race.

Invited to speak back-to-back on Monday April 22 are Sens. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Kamala Harris of California, and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Youth voter favorite Beto O’Rourke is not on the list despite coming in third in the recently released survey from the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s Kennedy School.

In that poll, former Vice President Joe Biden came in second, but he has not announced his plans to run yet.

Taking O’Rourke’s place is Buttigieg who registered 1 percent in the Harvard poll to O’Rourke’s 10 percent.

But in the new Saint Anselm College Survey Buttigieg was third.

The “back-to-back town halls” will take place at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. It is organized by the Institute of Politics and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics. The audience will include 500 young voters.

It will be moderated by CNN anchors Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, and Chris Cuomo.

“The votes of young Americans could be the determining factor in this election. Young voters are eager to be engaged and speak directly to those seeking the presidency,” said Mark D. Gearan, director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School. “We are grateful to our colleagues at St. Anselm’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics for co-hosting this event with us and look forward to the exchange of ideas.”
