Actress and founder of the online lifestyle brand Goop Gwyneth Paltrow has always had her haters, but now she can add Arizona Senator John McCain’s wife to that list.
Cindy McCain took to Twitter Wednesday to slam Paltrow for comparing receiving mean comments on the Internet to experiencing war.
“Gweneth Paltrow is a joke. Her life is like taking bullets for a soldier. What a joke! My 2 sons serving in the military should talk to her,” tweeted the Republican senator’s wife. She followed up with another thought, “Perhaps Gweneth Paltrow should go out on patrol with some soldiers. Kind of like a Red Carpet in her mind I guess!”
Paltrow sparked the criticism at a Code Conference Tuesday when she expanded on the unappealing aspects of the Internet. “You come across [online comments] about yourself and about your friends, and it’s a very dehumanizing thing. It’s almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing, and then something is defined out of it,” explained the actress. “My hope is, as we get out of it, we’ll reach the next level of conscience.”
Evidently, loathing for Gwyneth Paltrow runs in the McCain family. Daughter Meghan McCain wrote on Twitter Thursday, “Maybe Gwyneth Paltrow should visit Walter Reed and some of our heroic veterans before comparing her life to theirs. #shesatotalidiot.”
Paltrow has also invited criticism from working moms, critics of “conscious uncoupling,” and basically anyone who considers her an elitist.
