Former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush announced the birth of their second grandchild Friday morning. Poppy Louise Hager was born to their younger daughter Jenna Bush Hager, 33, and her husband Henry Hager, 37.
“Jenna and Henry chose her name as a tribute to her great-grandfather, 41, who was nicknamed Poppy as a child,” said Bush in a statement on the birth of the child, referring to his father, President George H.W. Bush.
“Poppy Louise Hager entered the world yesterday in New York City, but we consider her an honorary Texan,” the former Texas governor was quick to add. “We are grateful to God.”
Bush’s newest addition to the family came just a day after House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, welcomed his first grandchild.
Boehner was congratulated by several fellow lawmakers of both parties on Twitter, and was quick to graciously thank them.
Thank you. Couldn’t be more thrilled. https://t.co/BhPNmt5YaW
