Sorry Planned Parenthood, Iowa’s abortion waiting period is a boon for moms and babies

Published

Iowa is the latest state to add restrictive abortion laws, and to cause a stir doing so. Lawmakers passed a bill requiring a woman seeking an abortion to wait 72 hours and to get an ultrasound.

Lawyers with Planned Parenthood of the Heartland and the American Civil Liberties Union are trying to block the bill, saying it places additional burdens on women who want to end a pregnancy, particularly in rape cases. A three-day waiting period may save the life of an unborn baby and encourage a mother to make a choice that’s not only better for her baby but her as well — the fact that lawmakers are vehemently opposing it shows their true priorities.
