THE CHANGE: Kevin Wale, 57, who runs General Motors’ operations in China, India and Southeast Asia, is retiring effective Oct. 31 after seven years of leading the unit.

THE REPLACEMENT: Bob Socia, 58, who is now head of global purchasing for GM. He starts work Oct. 1. The company says his experience across the globe makes him the right leader.

THE REASON: GM says Wale decided to retire to his native Australia after seven years of working day and night to oversee GM’s growth in the emerging markets. He’s been with the company since 1975.
