LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) — Airline and transportation officials say a flight attendant became ill on a Southwest Airlines flight, prompting hazmat crews at BWI to check the air on the craft.

It happened on Southwest Flight 709, which left Norfolk, Va., about 4 p.m. Thursday heading to BWI and then Chicago. The plane carried 134 passengers and five crew members. It landed at scheduled at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and the sickened flight attendant was taken to a local hospital.

Maryland State transportation officials say hazmat crews sampled the air on the plane, and blamed a cleaning solvent for the incident.

A Southwest spokeswoman says passengers headed on to Chicago on another plane.
