Repeat was the word for the Century High girls lacrosse team Tuesday. The Knights won their second straight Class 2A-1A state title over Pikesville, 15-5, at UMBC. It was the Knights? third state championship in five consecutive state final appearances.
“We knew we still had something to prove,” Century sophomore midfielder Katie Schwarzmann said. “We knew we could not let our guard down with Pikesville because they wanted revenge for last year.”

Senior midfielder Rebecca Kreshtool started the scoring as Pikesville (9-7) took an early 1-0 lead. But Century (16-2) answered in kind as senior midfielder Ashley Trombetta cut in front of the crease and scored an unassisted goal, sparking a four-goal run that ate up 10 minutes of the clock.
Schwarzmann and fellow midfielder Jenny Steadman stole the show during the run. The pair was responsible for scoring the next nine Century goals.
“It is just a feeling they get, and they are able to compliment each other well,” Century coach Rose Pentz said.
Steadman finished the game with seven goals and an assist, while Schwarzmann tallied four goals and an assist. Claire Brady had three assists, while Elizabeth Hart, Brittany Pauley and Brittany Sipes each had one goal.
Steadman and Schwarzmann led the Knights in points for the season with 131 and 111, respectively.
“Kate and I have always worked well together. I will miss that,” Steadman said. “We worked the whole season for this state championship.”
Pikesville stayed withinstriking distance, heading into halftime trailing, 6-2. But the second half was the Panthers? undoing. Century ran rampant on the Pikesville defense, scoring three times before Pikesville could get on the board again.
Kreshtool finished the game with two scores and two assists, while and seniors Morgan Appel and Rebecca Misler and junior Megan Seidman each scored once for Pikesville.
But the day belonged to Century.
“I will always remember the heart this team had,” Pentz said. “We could have let things go when we lost to Liberty and then to Dulaney [in the regular season]. They pulled together as a team to be successful.”
