New Baltimore County police precinct opens in Pikesville

Baltimore County police officials had an inkling years ago that the east and west sides of the county would grow, and they numbered their precincts accordingly.

They left a few gaps, and Precinct 4 didn?t exist.

Pikesville will make room today with a grand opening celebration for its very own police station ? a brand new building in the 200 block of Milford Mill Road. Precinct 4 carves out the southern section of the Franklin precinct.

“With the growth in [the area], it just became obvious,” said Capt. Kimberley Meeks-Hall, who will be commander at the new precinct.

Workers wereputting finishing touches on the holding rooms, and many of the desks were empty Tuesday as Meeks-Hall toured the new precinct. It?s good the halls were quiet, she said. It means her officers already have taken to the streets.

Estimated to cost $5.1 million and built next to a Maryland State Police forensics building, the Pikesville precinct is designed a lot like the precinct building in Towson.

It has an airy lobby with a two-story glass front and a similar layout. There are interview and holding rooms on the first floor, and several rooms of office space, a kitchen and a conference room with leather chairs on the second floor.

Within about a month, officials said, the exercise room will have elliptical machines, treadmills and a 30-inch flat-screen television.

Meeks-Hall said she canvassed the entire department building her staff.

She filled the top ranks with some officers she has worked with for years.

Many of the patrol officers are coming over from Franklin, or Precinct 3.
