Construction company welcomes people fleeing big cities for the country with free AR-15

A Wyoming roofing company is offering customers free AR-15s when they purchase a roof installation.

“Guns are a part of our culture out here,” said Matt Thomas, who does marketing for Wiggins Construction.

“People are moving into Wyoming to get out of the cities and to get away from the regulation and to get away from living in fear,” he told local media. “We’re just offering it as almost, like, for the people that are recently moving to Wyoming as a ‘Welcome to Wyoming’ gift and for the people that are here, locals, just a ‘thank you’ for doing business.”

The company spoke with lawyers to make sure the act of gratitude was legal before rolling out the promotion on April 12. Customers must also prove they are older than 21, have not been convicted of a felony, and will follow gun laws before receiving the gift.

Thomas added that the company has received angry phone calls from people on both coasts over the promotion, including people saying that the employees are “baby killers” and receiving death threats.

“It’s come to our attention that people are saying that we don’t respect life and we don’t want life preserved and we want life taken. That is completely false,” Thomas said in a Facebook Live video on Friday in response to the threats. “So if you do not want a gun with your roof, that’s completely fine.”

Customers who do not want the gun promotion are able to instead have an $800 donation sent to a faith-based crisis pregnancy center.

“Serenity House is a faith-based program for women who are pregnant and are looking for kind of just options and someone to help them walk them through their pregnancy, someone that’s going to help them preserve life and, if they’re not ready to be a mother, adoption or foster care options and stuff like that,” Thomas added.

Thomas said the alternative is “taking a stance against the murder of 3,000 babies every single day by Planned Parenthood.”

The promotion comes as people from blue states have flocked to red states, such as Florida and Texas, in recent months. For example, there was a 46.2% increase in the number of San Francisco residents who moved to Florida between 2019 and 2020.
