John Oliver shows Stephen Colbert the hat: ‘Make Donald Drumpf Again’ [VIDEO]

Two weeks after his “wonderful 20-minute piece” taking down Donald Trump, John Oliver talked with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show to discuss how he is paying more attention to Trump now.

At the start of the primary season, Oliver didn’t think he needed to care about Trump.

The segment referenced Oliver’s piece, including a “Make Donald Drumpf Again” red hat, to much applause. As Oliver recapped, he was “trying to separate the kind of mascot of Donald Trump from the man,” whose family name, Oliver discovered, had once been Drumpf. Oliver wanted people “to look at [Trump] with fresh eyes.”

So far, Oliver has sold 35,000 hats, which doesn’t make them any money. Jay-Z asked for a hat, and wanted it for free. Oliver told HBO that if Jay-Z wore one in public, they would need to make more hats. If Beyoncé wore one in public, Oliver warned “we are no longer a TV show, we’re a hat manufacturing company.” Oliver joked that if he wore one, sales would drop.

Oliver and Colbert also discussed the British history of kings. “Look through British history,” Oliver said, “and you’ll see lots of Drumpfs wearing gold on their heads. There’s an equivalent love for gold between 18th-century kings and current presidents.”

Colbert also broke down how Trump is receiving 12 percent of the electorate’s vote, but come November that could turn into 50 percent, allowing him to become the next president. In England though, Trump would only receive his 12 percent.

On the different governments, Oliver reminded Colbert that “your only qualification had to be that you came out of a queen’s vagina.”
