The early summer heat spike is killing vehicles in the Washington area.
Calls for roadside assistance calls on Monday jumped 32 percent from June 21 last year, AAA Mid-Atlantic reported.
The auto club reported a total of 7,122 dispatched rescues Monday for its Maryland, Virginia and D.C. territory. Battery-related calls in D.C. soared fivefold since last year, while battery calls in Maryland saw more than a 100 percent increase — from 215 to 440. Virginia went up from 148 to 245.
“Those are huge increases,” said AAA spokesman Lon Anderson.
Car batteries are the most likely thing to fail in high heat.
