Of all people … Chris Matthews defends the tea party

Chris Matthews is not the first media person you would expect to come to the defense of the tea party. In fact, he probably wouldn’t even break the top 100.

However, on Wednesday’s episode of “Ronan Farrow Daily” he did just that. Farrow brought up the congressional election between David Brat and Jack Trammell, citing Trammell’s higher score on the faculty review website Rate My Professor as a measurement of who may be more qualified for the position. Matthews quickly came to Brat’s defense.

“I don’t know which professor is more popular but that doesn’t mean he’s a better professor, first of all,” said Matthews, who was just getting started.

“This looking down our noses at tea party people has got to stop. They have a message, they’re as American as any liberal is, and they’re really angry about the failure of the system.”
