‘Got very hot’: CNN’s Chris Cuomo gushes over Andrew Yang

CNN prime-time anchor Chris Cuomo said the younger audience members at the Democratic primary debate were very supportive of Andrew Yang.

Cuomo, 49, brought up the entrepreneur’s performance during a break after the first hour of the debate on Thursday night. Yang appeared to have a strong moment when he was asked about being the only person of color on the debate stage after a number of presidential candidates of color failed to qualify.

He stated, “Yang with the ‘Yang gang.’ And they have been pretty vocal in here. Most of the young people, as you might expect, are up in the higher seats here. They got very hot for Yang when he was talking about the needs of what to feed in this country. Sanders came on the heels of him, wanted to change the topic, and you heard their frustration. So that was moving into Sanders’s lane. That’s what we’re seeing tonight.”

After the entrepreneur answered the question about being the only person of color, Sanders tried changing the subject after being asked “what message” it sends that Yang is the only one, and the Vermont senator tried changing the subject to address climate change.

Dana Bash added, “I thought that was a really interesting moment for that reason and for another reason because the question that Yang was asked, with which he hit out of the park, was about the fact that after the most diverse debate stage that we have seen ever up until now, it’s white except Yang.”

“And he was loaded with stats,” Cuomo chimed in.
