Clinton “should have listened to the doctors, for God’s sake,” Biden told reporters at a campaign stop in Rock Hill, S.C., Monday afternoon. Biden, who had considered a run for the Democratic nominee, said his former Senate colleague has exhibited “enormous stamina” on the trail.
Lisa R. Bardack, Clinton’s physician, had advised Clinton “to rest and modify her schedule.” But the former secretary of state chose “to just power through,” campaign manager Robbie Mook said.
Clinton’s health has become a campaign issue after Republican nominee Donald Trump said she did not have energy to lead the U.S. and was hiding her medical conditions from the public. Clinton had repeatedly denounced the accusations, but last week had serious coughing fits during campaign events that led to more speculation.
The campaign had said the coughing episodes were isolated incidents, but after the former secretary of state left the Ground Zero remembrance on Sunday and then was caught on video almost passing out, her campaign announced she had been diagnosed with pneumonia.
