John Kerry was on a boat

Unlike “Saturday Night Live” comedian Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island pals, the State Department didn’t want to enthusiastically put it out there that, yes, Secretary of State John Kerry was on a boat.

The country’s top diplomat was on a boat “briefly” on Wednesday, said State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, according to Politico. She added that no official business was conducted while Kerry was aboard the vessel.

This was a flip-flop from an earlier State Department statement, which said that “any report or tweet that he was on a boat is completely inaccurate.”

It was CBS News that originally called out Kerry for being aboard his yacht, Isabel, the same day that Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi was ousted.

“While he was briefly on his boat on Wednesday, Secretary Kerry worked around the clock all day, including participating in the president’s meeting with his National Security Council and calls with Norwegian Foreign Minister Eade, Qatari Foreign Minister al-Attiyah, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu, Egyptian Constitution Party President ElBaradei and five calls to Ambassador Patterson on that day alone,” was Psaki’s official response.
