Johns Hopkins students oppose Chick-fil-A, cite possible ‘microaggressions’

Students at Johns Hopkins University think that mor chikin will cause “microaggressions.”

The Johns Hopkins University Student Government Association held a vote Tuesday regarding whether or not Chick-fil-A should be allowed on campus. The group concluded that the presence of the chicken chain will create “microagressions” for members and allies of the gay community because of CEO Dan Cathy’s vocal opposition to same-sex marriage.

In a resolution entitled “A Resolution Regarding the SGA’s Opinion on Current and Future Chick-Fil-A Development Plans” obtained by the College Fix, the members of the student government cite Cathy’s “publicly stated divisive statements” against the gay community as reason enough to oppose the restaurant.

“Visiting prospective and current students, staff, faculty and other visitors who are members of the LGBTQ+ community or are allies would be subject to the microaggression of supporting current or future Chil-fil-A development plans,” the resolution declares.

The members of the student government insist that they do not “support” any “current or future” plans — no formal ones of which have been made — to put a Chick-fil-A on campus.

However, though the resolution passed 18-8, the student government clarified on its Facebook page that it does not indicate a Chick-fil-A “ban” on campus but simply conveys the group’s “opinion on future developments.”

The resolution, according to the post, is meant “to encourage the administration to seek alternative chicken vendors before Chick-Fil-A in the best interest of a cohesive campus environment in which all students feel accepted.”
