Capitol Hill Republicans have officially responded to Jay-Z and Beyonce’s April jaunt to Cuba. On Wednesday, a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee approved a spending bill that would tighten travel restrictions to Cuba, Politico reported.
In the past, the Department of Treasury could approve travel to Cuba for a handful of reasons, including academic study, along with cultural, religious or journalistic pursuits, according to the New York Daily News. The new legislation, if passed, would limit it to just academics.
It was Rep. Jose Serrano, D-N.Y., a Democrat who is against the bill, who gave it its nickname. “This is the Jay-Z, Beyonce Bill,” he told Politico.
While the law might pass the Republican-dominated House of Representatives, it’s doubtful it would get through the Democratically-controlled Senate.
