What do Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne from “The Walking Dead” all likely have in common?
Well, they must be Republicans if they have survived the zombie apocalypse for five seasons of the show, at least according to a new hilarious YouGov poll.
The new poll finds that while most Americans feel pretty good about their chances to survive in the event of an apocalypse, Republicans feel much more confident about their chances than Democrats and Democrats agree.
About 42 percent of people said that their survival time in the event of an apocalypse would be the same as most people in their community, while 32 percent claimed that they’d live longer and another 11 percent said they would die early on.
Split by party, 43 percent of Republicans believe that they would survive longer than most people in their community, while only 22 percent of Democrats believe that. Most Democrats, 47 percent of them, said that they’d live as long as most other people in their community.
Both parties had relatively low numbers of people who admitted to believing that they wouldn’t survive very long.
Some of this high confidence might come from the fact that very few poll respondents believe an apocalyptic disaster is likely in their lifetime.
YouGov found that just 7 percent believe this extreme scenario is “very likely,” and nearly 40 percent believe it is “very unlikely.” This was one thing both parties agreed on, with a nearly perfect split of Republicans and Democrats responding in both categories.
