Naturally, Rob Ford has landed a reality TV show

You could almost mistake the bizarre story of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford as fiction, but it’s been reality — just like his newly announced television show.

According to Salon, Ford will appear on his own reality program, “Ford Nation,” with his brother Toronto City Councillor Doug Ford on the Sun News Network. Spinning off of the Ford brothers’ radio show on Newstalk 1010 that wrapped last week, the reality program is being hyped as “Canada’s Ultimate Reality Show,” a mix of in-studio broadcast material and “in-the-field components.”

“We are in the age of reality TV and it doesn’t get more real than the Fords,” the network’s vice president Kory Teneycke said.

No kiddin’.

The Canadian mayor has made headlines recently for admitting to smoking crack-cocaine while drunk. He’s also been captured on video threatening another man’s life, and he even went so far as detailing his sexual habits. So ingrained in pop culture is the absurdity of Ford’s story, the low-cost Spirit Airlines has provided a “We’re Not Smoking Crack” discount to travelers headed to Toronto.

“Rob is like Howard Stern or Rush Limbaugh,” Doug Ford said of his brother. “You just never know what he is going to say.”

The show will premier on November 18 in its 8 p.m. Monday night spot on the Sun News Network.
