Poll: Clinton holds solid lead over Trump

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to hold a substantial lead over presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, according to a new poll released Thursday.

According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, Clinton leads with 41 percent to Trump’s 32 percent — a nine-point margin — with 15 percent backing neither or another candidate altogether. Clinton’s lead expands by a point, as she led Trump 42-34 in their previous poll taken last week.

Another 4 percent of respondents said they won’t be going to the polls, while another 7 percent said they weren’t sure or refused to participate altogether.

However, Clinton’s lead grows by another two percentage points when polled against Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson along with Trump. Clinton leads with 39 percent in this matchup, with Trump taking only 29 percent, including only 64 percent support from Republicans compared to Clinton’s 72 percent from Democrats. Johnson, the former two-term GOP governor of New Mexico, takes 6 percent of the total.

Another 21 percent remained outstanding between those declining to vote, are undecided or won’t vote for any of the candidates. Green Party nominee Jill Stein also snags 4 percent support.

The poll is Reuters’ first since the Orlando attack that killed 49 at a gay nightclub. It was taken between June 11th-16th of 1,323 registered voters.

Overall, Clinton continues to lead Trump as both look toward the general election. According to the RealClearPolitics average, Clinton leads by nearly 6 percentage points (44.1-38.3 percent).
