A test rocket launched by private space flight company SpaceX was detonated over the Texas skies Friday, the result of a safety measure that caused no “injuries or near injuries.”
The flight of the unmanned F9R rocket was designed to “push the limits,” the company said in a statement, but the detection of a mid-flight anomaly resulted in the automatic termination of the mission.

The F9R has been tested successfully before, but has only reached heights of a little more than 3,000 feet, according to CNN — modest for a vehicle whose “reusable” purpose could prove integral in missions to as far away as Mars.
